Team Lidar Applications
The Lidar Applications Team (short Lidar Apps) is performing research based on lidar data. This includes scientific exploitation of ground-based but also space-borne lidar observations as well as algorithm development for those. Among others, current working areas of the Lidar APPS team include:
- Field studies to investigate the properties and transport of aerosol (e.g. desert dust, volcanic aerosol, smoke...) in the atmospheric column and their effect on cloud formation and other atmospheric properties
- Long-term measurements of aerosol distribution in the troposphere and lower stratosphere using lidar and trend analysis derived from them
- Development of new algorithms for determining atmospheric parameters using remote sensing
- Active involvement in space missions for earth observation using lidar, such as Aeolus and EarthCARE
- Lab Studies to investigate lidar-relevant optical aerosol properties
