Model domain for COSMO-MUSCAT simulations of Central Asian dust with included potential dust sources.
The transport of mineral dust from the different source regions towards the field site at Dushanbe/Tajikistan will be analysed using the regional dust model system COSMO-MUSCAT, which has been developed in the TROPOS Modeling Department (Heinold et al, 2007; 2011). The model will be used to simulate the transport and radiative effects of Central Asian dust with a grid spacing of 28 km for the period of the field experiment. Modeled dust storm events will be validated using routine ground-based and space-borne remote sensing of aerosol as well as local field observations. The dust optical properties determined from the CADEX measurements will serve as input to the COSMO-MUSCAT simulations.
