The Leibniz Institute for Tropospheric Research (TROPOS) is a research institute of the Leibniz Association and an internationally renowned institute in the field of aerosol and cloud research. ACTRIS (Aerosol, Clouds and Trace Gases Research lnfrastructure, www.actris.eu) is a European research infrastructure for the quality-assured observation
of aerosols, clouds and short-lived trace gases. ACTRIS is used to study their complex interactions, particularly in the areas of climate and air quality.
IAGOS-CARIBIC (In-Service Aircraft for a Global Observing System - Civil Aircraft for the Regular lnvestigation of the Atmosphere Based on an Instrument Container, www.caribic-atmospheric.com) is another European research infrastructure in which passenger aircraft are used as a measuring platform for regular aerosol and trace gas measurements up to an altitude of 13 km.
For the contributions of TROPOS to the national implementation of the research infrastructure, called "ACTRIS-D", and to the new construction of the IAGOS-CARIBIC measuring container with the most modern and complex measuring instruments for the measurement of aerosol particles, the department "Atmospheric Microphysics" is looking for two committed . You will have the opportunity to work in a diverse, exciting and internationally connected field of work at a non-university research institute.
Your tasks:
- Development, characterization and certification of an optical particle counter for use on the IAGOS-CARIBIC platform.
- Work on setting up and operating mobile and stationary research platforms.
- Coordination and implementation of technical developments in close cooperation with interdisciplinary teams (mechanical workshop, electronics department, scientists).
- Testing, calibration and validation of devices and communication in laboratory and field environments.
Creation of technical documentation.
Your qualifications:
- Doctorate in atmospheric research or engineering degree or equivalent qualification.
- Technical understanding and interest in laboratory and field work.
- Programming skills in e.g. Python, R, Matlab, Java.
- General willingness to travel at harne and abroad.
- Experience with aerosol measurement technology as weil as automation and basic knowledge of electronics are desirable.
Two positions are to be filled for a fixed term of 18 months at the earliest possible date.
We offer an exciting position with varied activities in an interdisciplinary working environment and a wide range of measures to reconcile work and family life as weil as flexible working hours and daycare places. The employment is temporary and comprises a full-time position of 40 hours/week. Part-time work is possible up to a minimum of 30 hours/week. Depending on qualifications, remuneration will be in accordance TV-L pay grades 11-13, including the attractive social benefits of the public sector.
